The Articles of Faith

A little while ago I decided to come up with a way to help my primary kids remember not only what the Articles of Faith said, but also a way to remember WHICH Article of Faith said what. I thought it would be fun to post them onto my blog - who knows, maybe they'll help some of you remember them too!

#1 : We believe in God the Eternal Father and in his Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost.

The number 1 turns into an arrow pointing up to God.

#2 : We believe that man must be punished for his own sins and not for Adam's transgression.

The number 2 flips over and turns into an S representing the word "sins."

#3 : We believe that through the Atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel.

I put a cape on the number 3 with an A on it representing that man will be SAVED by the Atonement.

#4 : We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the gospel are first, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, second repentance, third baptism by emersion for the remission of sins, fourth laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

A hand holding up 4 fingers for the 4 principles stated.

#5 : We believe that a man must be called of God by prophesy and by the laying on of hands, by those who are in authority to preach the gospel and administer the ordinances thereof.

I put a little top hat on the number 5 to turn it into a man.

#6 : We believe in the same organization that existed in the primitive church namely apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists and so forth.

The circle part of the number 6 turns into the O in "organization."

#7 : We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, healings, visions, interpretation of tongues and so forth.

The number 7 turned into a face with the tongue sticking out - "gift of tongues."

#8 : We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

The two circle of the 8 turn into the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

#9 : We believe all that God as revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that
He will yet reveal many great and important things partaining to the Kingdom of God.

I went with the "reveal" theme here. The rabbit is being revealed out of the hat! And it happens to cover up the number 9 exactly!

#10 : We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

The 0 turns into the world. Pretty simple.

#11 : We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men to do the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

The number 11 turns into a church. I made sure to put a cross on this church symbolizing that we have no problem with other religions.

#12 : We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

This is my favorite. Too bad it came out blurry. I turned the 1 into a king and had the 2 turn into somebody kneeling before the king. Not bad, huh?

#13 : We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - we believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

I changed parts of the number 13 into the first big words - honest, true, chaste, and benevolent.

There they are folks. My version of the Thirteen Articles of Faith. Enjoy!
