The Day the Air Conditioner Died
Ya know how there are things that we use every day that we take for granted and don't realize how desperate we are without them until they're gone? Our air conditioner was one of these things. Clint and I noticed that our house was abnormally warm on Saturday morning and, when we checked the thermostat, we saw that our house was sitting at an uncomfortable 84 degrees. Our next door neighbor owns an air conditioning business so we called him to take a look at our unit. We were not surprised to find out that the whole thing had died.

Unfortunately, he wouldn't be able to replace it until Monday so we were stuck with a very hot home over the weekend. Clint decided to invest in a window air conditioner as a temporary fix-it but we discovered that the only window in the house that he could pry open was located in the master bathroom.

So we installed it and closed off the master bedroom from the rest of the house.

We all slept in the master bedroom on Saturday night. Of course, Lizzy thought it was the greatest thing ever - we pulled out all sorts of toys and books and other things that we usually hold off on for special occasions (and emergencies!)

We pulled her mattress into our room and, much to our surprise, she actually slept really well. Thank goodness!

Throughout this whole ordeal we were most worried about Jacob. It was SO HOT in the house... whenever we left the bedroom it felt like walking into a sauna - even with all the fans on. The temperature got up to 87 degrees that first day.

However, we were really blessed by Sunday. Good ol' Fay was rolling in and bringing rain and winds and cooler temperatures! Clint managed to open up 3 more windows with the help of some tools from Home Depot and pretty soon the thermostat read off a much more comfortable 81 degrees by Sunday afternoon. We spent a lot of time on the back porch watching the rain.

This afternoon Mike, our neighbor, installed the new unit and we finally have air conditioning again. (Lizzy keeps talking about "Mr. Bike" who came over because the "house was really hot." It took me a long time to figure out what she was talking about!) So needless to say, we had never thanked the Lord for air conditioning before, but we have been sending many thanks His way for such a wonderful invention this evening!

Isn't it aweful when the AC dies. That happened to us last summer (when I was 9 months pregnant). I think those were the worst days of my entire pregnancy.

Oh my gosh, that just stinks!! I think I'd be this close to checking into a hotel! You guys handled it well, it looks like. I'm impressed. and really, it wasn't too bad of timing with Fay coming in or it probably could have been a lot worse. But 87 degrees in the house is just sickeningly hot!! Glad you got it fixed!

Oh honey, I feel your pain! We were "lucky" enough to find out our landlord didn't have a big enough a/c unit to cool the house right during the 3 week span of 105 degree temps. You are so lucky to live next door to someone who could fix it fast!

Yuck! No A/C. That is the pits. The high temperatures didn't seem to bother Lizzy or Jacob. They are both just as cute as can be. How has it been transitioning to two munchkins? You make it look effortless!
